Last July, I met with people to discuss honoring the first basketball team to win gold in the Olympics with a life size bronze work of art. The design work began with pencil sketches of the 600 square foot courtyard. The sculpture is the central design, but there will also be 17 or so feet of laser etched black granite walls, granite benches and pavers to mimic the hardwood floor of a basketball court. A lot of detail and attention went into this design but now I have the joy (and challenges) of creating their likenesses using a photograph taken of the team back in the mid 1930’s.
