Job crosses the line. Well, several actually Thru the Bible: Job 7-9 Job has come to the point in his calamities where he is reconsidering the nature of God. He is NOT willing to turn his back on Him - partly through fear of judgment and partly out of reverence. It is a very difficult place. To Job and his friends, all of these trials seem as if they are the judgment of God rather than temptations and trials sent from the devil to destabilize his faith and devotion to God. They simply have no theological bag to put this all in. The lines Job begins to cross are where he begins to claim that even if he had sinned and repented, God would simply plunge him back into the mire of guilt since He is determined to destroy him. Job also believes that God protects the wicked and punishes the innocent. To top it all off, Job also believes God literally laughs and takes pleasure in the adversities of the blameless. On top of this Job's understanding of God's ability to hear and answer prayer seems puzzling by today's standards. He keeps wishing for an audience with God to present his case, as if God cannot hear him and as if he could not just do so at any time in prayer. To all of these hostile words against God and his character Bildad steps in and offers very solid counsel. However, like their friend Eliphaz, he comes to wrong conclusions because of his belief that all of Job's troubles are due to unconfessed and un-repudiated sin. God Bless!
