The Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation Program (PEUC) provides an additional 53 weeks of payments. It began April 5, 2020 and will conclude the week ending September 5, 2021. The Extended Benefits Program (EB) was implemented July 5, 2020. Unemployment insurance in New York lasts for 26 weeks. PEUC now provides 53 extra weeks of benefits, while EB offers either 13 or 20 additional weeks of benefits, depending on the rate of unemployment in New York State. The U.S. Department of Labor's Extended Unemployment Program will no longer be available for those who are unemployed and unable to find employment in New York City after January 1, 2020.
