Ezekiel, Cherubim and the God of Israel Thru the Bible: Ezekiel 1-7 Ezekiel was a 6th-century BC prophet and priest and author of the book which bears his name. The book of Ezekiel, reveals prophecies regarding the destruction of Jerusalem, and the future restoration to the land of Israel. The setting of the beginning of this book is about 5 years into the Babylonian captivity, making Ezekiel a contemporary with both Jeremiah and Daniel. Ironically Ezekiel’s name only appears two times in the whole Bible, both of which are in this book. The name Ezekiel, means in “May God strengthen.” In these first 7 chapters we get our first of several glimpses at Cherubim. They are the living creatures represented above the Ark of the Covenant and in some of the artwork of the tabernacle. However, this is the first clear depiction of these glorious beings who most often appear in direct connection with God and His throne. I pray this and the up coming messages in Ezekiel are a blessing to you in your pursuit of God as well as your study of His word.
