Property Insurance Companies Deny Claims UnFairly The lawsuits are piling up and the reasons behind them are pure greed. Old lawsuits and new lawsuits keep property attorneys busy. Hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana in 2005 and insurance companies withheld payments that should have been paid. After 17 years State Farm Fire and Casualty Company paid the state of Mississippi $12 million. The settlement stated that the money was for "restitution for damage, which was or may have been caused by a violation of law or potential violation of law". The original dispute involved allegations that State Farm minimized payments to many of its policyholders, leaving the state of Mississippi with the task of paying the tab many years ago. Earlier this year State Farm paid $650,000 to settle a lawsuit accusing it of acting in bad faith. The insurance company refused to pay an arbitrated award. That strategy did not work and resulted in the claims lawsuit mentioned above. Do you have a problem or issue with your property insurance company? Call us today for a consultation.
