Eyespy Home Inspections (Retired)

I received the above postcard in the mail this week as did many others. Several people asked what is this new radon thing. The Good! I can tell you inexpensively if your levels are elevated within a few hours of testing (weather permitting). Why the quick test, well most families use their basements now more than ever so safety first! Long-term testing may be recommended (90 days). The Bad! Radon is the #1 cause of lung cancer for non-smokers,16% of lung cancers are estimated to be from radon exposure, resulting in more than 3,000 lung cancer deaths in Canada each year. Radon levels can vary widely from one home to another, even on the same street. With no smell, no color, and no taste the only way to know how much radon is in your home is to test for it. Health Canada stresses the importance of having every homeowner test their home, regardless of whether your community is known to have high radon levels. If your radon levels are above 200 becquerels per cubic meter (200 Bq/m3) action needs to be taken. Radon gas can enter the building through cracks in foundation walls and floor slabs, construction joints, openings around water connections and support poles, floor drains and sumps, empty spaces in walls, and the water supply network. Basements and crawlspaces will generally contain the highest levels usually due to poor or no ventilation. Mitigation, if needed is worth every penny. https://youtu.be/SKVISH5YxKQ https://eyespy-homeinspections.ca
