The Temple revealed to Ezekiel Thru the Bible: Ezekiel 46-48 In these final chapters of Ezekiel we see a strikingly similar vision of the New Jerusalem seen 600 years later by the John on the Isle of Patmos. Both cities were viewed from the holy mountain. Both were a perfect square. Both had twelve gates - three on each side which corresponded to the names of the tribes of Israel. Both had a river flowing from the center with trees on either side which bore fruit every month and whose leaves never wither and which are medicine for the nations. There are of course some differences, but I believe these can be easily explained by the fact that God was revealing the same thing to two very different people. One group was under the Old Covenant and had no real notion of the potential for perfect holiness outside of worship centered around a temple with sacrifice. But even the sacrifices described in Ezekiel were different enough from those given through Moses to cause them to think of a different type of future. Also the three previous chapters seem to speak of a pre and actual millenial age which is described strikingly similar in the New Testament. I hope this teaching aids you in your study of God's word! Blessings!
