𝗗𝗼 𝗜 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗼𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻? You’ve decided to build a deck (or renovate an old one) and are eager to get started, but before you get started, you need a building permit. Every homeowner wishes they could bypass the red tape that accompanies most property alterations, but the law is the law. It’s always best to do things by the book rather than rectify the issue later. Most deck projects must be reviewed by your local jurisdiction to ensure they comply with the International Residential Code (IRC) standards and regulations. The IRC sets specific protocols for construction projects to make sure the finished project is going to be safe, built correctly, and up to current building standards. Upon receiving the building permit, you are now authorized to build the deck according to the specifics shown on the finalized plans you presented. What is needed to get permitting for a Kansas City deck build? Detailed drawing of your dream deck. Present two copies of the scale drawings. The sketched plans need to be drawn from a bird’s eye view and must show where the deck will attach to the home. You may also be asked to provide an elevation drawing. While some professional deck builders use computer drafting software to create the plans, a hand drawing using ¼” graph paper is also acceptable. Click LEARN MORE for additional information!
