ANGRY TENNIS POEM // Today I was at Channel Nine in Melbourne and in the makeup room was newsreader Peter Hitchener and Russell Morris, a well-known Australian singer and songwriter. Russell mentioned playing🎾 'angry tennis' and we all agreed that it was a great name for a song - so I got back to my desk and wrote this! Not to be taken too seriously! 😆

I’ve lived a life on the road
Always a long way from home
But I take my racquet along with me
And play whenever I am free
It starts with a casual hit
As I warm up and keep fit
But then the inner demon comes out
Angry tennis is what it’s about
A serve that stretches
A volley that skims the net
A backhand that grunts on its own
A forehand that’s sent with a groan
Angry tennis
Release me please
Angry tennis
My trauma release
Angry tennis
Is what I do
Angry tennis
Watch out you!
As the score goes up and down
My body finds its rhythm now
I find myself at one with the game
That inside voice is silent again
Angry tennis
Release me please
Angry tennis
My trauma release
Angry tennis
Is what I do
Angry tennis
Watch out you!
