POEM // Kindness

In kindness I pause
And think before I act
Could there be another reason
For this clear lack of tact
In kindness I wait
And listen for clues
I don't respond to triggers
I delve deeper before I accuse
In kindness I process
And evaluate the facts
I stop looking for reasons
And avoid making pacts
Kindness to you
Kindness to me
Kindness enables us
To truly be free
Beyond acceptance
Beyond forgiveness
Beyond defensive
Beyond second guess
It allows, it liberates
It sees black through white
Every colour you'll see
When kindness is in sight
Today, a quote popped up on my social media feed from Roald Dahl.
“I think probably kindness is my number one attribute in a human being. I’ll put it before any of the things like courage or bravery or generosity or anything else. Kindness - that simple word. To be kind - it covers everything, to my mind. If you're kind - that's it.” —Roald Dahl.
This was very interesting to me as I have been living my own pact around 'courage beating comfort' for quite some time.
But how often do we keep pushing forward with a critical voice towards others or ourselves?
What if we were kind before we were cruel, to others as well as ourselves?
