Should I Put Temporary Work on My Resume? If a job was related to your field, don't downplay its importance or leave it off your resume just because it was only temporary. A short-term job can still give you useful experience or show that you know how to do a certain task or work with a certain system, equipment, or software. If you're a recent graduate or have little recent work experience, any job—temporary or not—will look good on your resume. Employers want to see that you have some sort of work history, even if it's only a few months. If the job wasn't related to your field of interest but helped you gain valuable skills like customer service, data entry, working in a fast-paced environment, or handling money, you may want to include it on your resume. These skills can be helpful in many different types of jobs. It's also good to list your temporary work if it covers a period that would otherwise be an employment gap. Taking a temporary position during a gap shows that you're proactive, hardworking, and motivated. On the other hand, if the employment was more than 10 years ago or if it was short-term and not relevant to your field, you may want to leave it off your resume. If you're uncertain whether to put a temporary job on your resume, err on the side of including it. You can also group these types of positions in a separate section if they aren't as relevant to your current job search.
